27 December 2014

I like wedding lunch banquet. It give the visitors enough time to rest after the lunch banquet. After 5 hours of "hibernation", we walk toward Hong Fu Seafood Restaurant for our dinner.

PS: Stay Tune for My JiMui Experience

 Philippine Pork Knuckle RM36.00

I tested this famous pork knuckle back in year 2009. May be we been working for quite some time in big city. We were quite surprise with the price. It seem to us there are not much increase over the  year. Let taste it and check out the taste
For that moment, we let go of the fact of lard. Yummy. The pork knuckle has very crispy skin while maintaining the meat tenderness.  Pork knuckle has high contain of collage. It is so interesting to see one of my friend slowing chewing the collagen.

In my opinion, the sauce compliment the dish well. The sauce has very strong lime smell. It is quite sour. Thus, it go very well with every bite.

 Coconut RM2.50

Fried Milin with Red Wine RM12.00
This vegetable is very tender. I like it fried with red wine. It will have this aromatic grape smeel with a bit of sour taste.

Fu Rong Fired Egg RM10.00

Heby mentioned that this dish should have more prawns.
Total Cost: RM79 for 6 persons

Triple K Beef Noodle @ Jalan Tan Hiok Nee, Johor Bahru

22 December 2014

Jalan Tan Hiok Nee is one of the oldest street in down town Johor Bahru. Other than coffee cafes on this street,  it has many authenticate food.

Back to the year before 2009, owner of this, Mr.Keoh was in sub-contract industry, but unfortunately due to the failed of economy, he decided to participate in beef noodle business. Hence, to produce a bowl of tasty East Malaysia style beef noodle, he purposely went to Sabah Kota Kinabalu to learn the recipe from his friend. Currently, he is the first East Malaysia beef noodle maker in Johor. Firstly, He uses plenty of herbs and cow bone to cook for 7-8 hours just to make a soup base with full of taste and nutrition. Unlike most beef noodles outlets, you don’t get radish, or even salted vegetables in the beefy soup. Instead, only the most basic combination of chopped fried spring onions, and coriander as well as a dash of pepper to complement the already piping hot and flavoursome punctuated with a robust beefy taste. Maybe you can consider adding cow offal included stomach, shin, intestines, liver, tongue, but most of customers prefer to stick to the bouncy balls and tender slices of beef for the best experience. Moreover, the price is reasonable and owner is friendly.

Cycling in BaiHe Village, Taiwan

8 August 2014

Travel like the local is our family travel's motto. This travel spirit has been passed down from my dad to me. That is why I wish to write about our ecology cycling trip in Baihe village.

4:00pm  We check in Grand Uncle's House. This home stay is surrounded by lotus plantation. The room has a beautiful view to oversee lotus pond.

4:30pm We choose our bicycle and wait for Mr. Teo, tour guide of the trip.
This is Mr. Teo. He is the tour guide and owner of Grand Uncle's House. He been awarded as one of the best ecology tour guide in Taiwan too.  At first rest point, Mr. Teoh explained the agriculture demographic at this rest place.

There are many children in this ecology tour. Mr. Teoh encourages the parent to let the children to play around this area. While the children are playing, Mr. Teoh continue to explain the different dams in this village.

林初埤木棉花道
This is "林初埤木棉花道". Google translated it as "Lin Pi Early Kapok Road". Every year, around late Febraury and early March,  flaming orange color flowers will be blooming. The path will be shut down and open just for cyclist and tourists to enjoy the view.

During the late 1980, railway was built to transport sugar cane. As the sugar cane production cost increase, the farmers reduce sugar cane production and change to rice or lotus plantation. The train service for this area shut down too. In recent year, Taiwan government remove the railway and mended the path into cycling path. Cyclists can have a safe path to cycle around this village.

One of the largest dam for plantation.

Mr. Teoh is joking with the children while waiting for us.

The journey ended at another big dam. There are total seven dams for agriculture at this district. We rested for 20 minutes before cycling back to home stay. I do not manage to capture the journey back to the home stay due to heavy rain fall. I also faced the worst nightmare that every photographer face. My camera battery went flat. O.O I brought 2 cameras and 3 batteries for this cycling trip. All went flat at the same.

This cycling trip is the most memorable trip in my Taiwan Itinerary.

Tips:
  • Try to bring a Chinese speaking friends along
  • Stay at Grand Uncle Homestay to enjoy back to nature experience

Check out Mr. Teoh's interview on the ecology tour in BaiHe Village.

23 November 2014

After one hour of exercise, Mr. Ang brought LerLer to try out new dishes. I have heard this restaurant for quite some time. However, not many people know the restaurant name. As I stood at the restaurant. there was no sign board for this restaurant. Good food will only spread by mouth.

The restaurant was famous for its seafood fried rice
The chef can fried 10 portion of rice at one time. LerLer admire the chef can stir fried the rice wiith balanced amount of sauce.

The chef in charged of grilled fresh seafood with sambal.

Most of the diners prefer to take away the banana wrapped seafood fried rice.  Banana leaf have its own unique fragrant. Furthermore, banana leaves have great medication benefits too.The longer the rice been wrapped, the more fragrance it is. However, diners usually need to wait for 15 minutes to be served. Their business was very blooming after 7:00pm. As LerLer's observe, there are event foreign tourists come here for the meal

Otak-Otak has great spicy flavor and  big chunks of fish,

Sambal Stir Fried Squid or Sotong.

The sambal (cili paste) work as wonder in this dish. Diners will keep going back and forth the counter for the delicious sambal.

Amphawa Boat Noodle @ Sutera Utama, Johor

12 November 2014

Audrey, Edlyn and I were invited to taste some Thai Cuisine.

Boat Noodle's History
The boat noodle, name and fame seem to come from the days when the kingdom’s capitol was in Ayutthaya and Thailand was still connected by canals and not roads. The Thai people have been watermen since the earliest days of their history; navigating the country’s tangled web of inland waterways in their long slender boats was the most practical means of getting until very, very recently. And the water is never far away; during last year’s floods boats seemed to materialize miraculously and all of a sudden the cars were on the overpasses and everyone was paddling around in canoes as if nothing had happened. So this soup was a classic of the era when the boats would pull up to the shore and tie off, and serve soup to people who would come eat on the banks of the canal; or it would be served in one of the more crowded urban floating market places.

Rangsit Chicken Boat Noodle RM1.90

In my opinion, rice noodle has a  harder texture than glass noodle. Mr. Ang and I prefer glass noodle, while Audrey prefer rice noodle.

Glass noodle with Amphawa soup base

Amphawa soup is creamy soup broth. I prefer Amphawa soup base. It is more spicy and sour. Rangsit soup is clear herbs soup broth

A secret recipe that passed through 3 generation
Thai Tempura Vegetables RM5.90
It is very different from the usual Japanese tempura. It is very crispy and crunchy. I prefer the red chili sauce to go with the vegetables.

Thai Style Fried Chicken Wings RM5.90
A dish that we feel like order second time. Well marinated chicken wind. It is fried till golden brown. Yummy

Pandan Leaf Chiciken (Gai Hor Bai Toey) RM5.90

Spicy Minced Chicken Salad (Lab Gai) RM6.90

Thai Crispy Chicken Salad (Spicy) RM8.90

This dish is too spicy for me. Even though I kept mentioned spicy, I still pick up the apple slice to eat. =.= "" Edlyn and Audrey keep remind me is spicy. hahahaha

Thai Beef Jerky RM8.90
Thai Beef Jerky RM8.90
This dish is a common tidbit in Thailand. Some diner prefer some chewy food while catching up with family members or friends. The beef is a bit hard to chew. As I chew, the gentle spicy taste hit my tougue.

Mango Sticky Rice RM8.90
Mango Sticky Rice RM8.90
The chefs used dried green bean for garnishing. Mango is soft. Glutinous rice is sticky in texture. Dried green bean is very hard. The combination of the food is very interesting.
