Amphawa Boat Noodle @ Sutera Utama, Johor

12 November 2014

Audrey, Edlyn and I were invited to taste some Thai Cuisine.

Boat Noodle's History
The boat noodle, name and fame seem to come from the days when the kingdom’s capitol was in Ayutthaya and Thailand was still connected by canals and not roads. The Thai people have been watermen since the earliest days of their history; navigating the country’s tangled web of inland waterways in their long slender boats was the most practical means of getting until very, very recently. And the water is never far away; during last year’s floods boats seemed to materialize miraculously and all of a sudden the cars were on the overpasses and everyone was paddling around in canoes as if nothing had happened. So this soup was a classic of the era when the boats would pull up to the shore and tie off, and serve soup to people who would come eat on the banks of the canal; or it would be served in one of the more crowded urban floating market places.

Left: Rice Noodle  Right: Glass Noodle
In my opinion, rice noodle has a  harder texture than glass noodle. Mr. Ang and I prefer glass noodle, while Audrey prefer rice noodle.

Glass noodle with Amphawa soup base

Amphawa soup is creamy soup broth. I prefer Amphawa soup base. It is more spicy and sour. Rangsit soup is clear herbs soup broth

A secret recipe that passed through 3 generation
Thai Tempura Vegetables RM5.90
It is very different from the usual Japanese tempura. It is very crispy and crunchy. I prefer the red chili sauce to go with the vegetables.

Thai Style Fried Chicken Wings RM5.90
A dish that we feel like order second time. Well marinated chicken wind. It is fried till golden brown. Yummy

Pandan Leaf Chiciken (Gai Hor Bai Toey) RM5.90

Spicy Minced Chicken Salad (Lab Gai) RM6.90

Thai Crispy Chicken Salad (Spicy) RM8.90

This dish is too spicy for me. Even though I kept mentioned spicy, I still pick up the apple slice to eat. =.= "" Edlyn and Audrey keep remind me is spicy. hahahaha

Thai Beef Jerky RM8.90
Thai Beef Jerky RM8.90
This dish is a common tidbit in Thailand. Some diner prefer some chewy food while catching up with family members or friends. The beef is a bit hard to chew. As I chew, the gentle spicy taste hit my tougue.

Mango Sticky Rice RM8.90
Mango Sticky Rice RM8.90
The chefs used dried green bean for garnishing. Mango is soft. Glutinous rice is sticky in texture. Dried green bean is very hard. The combination of the food is very interesting.
