My Dream Honeymoon with Fashion Valet and Luxe Nomad

Mr. Ang is an engineer. He is very good in fixing car and house. He is a wonderful guy. He will help girls to carry heavy stuffs. He will be very quiet when we girls are chatting away.  There was an incident that I will never forget. One day, I felt sick in the office. Once he heard the news,  he rushed to my office. He carried me down the staircase to his car and sent me to clinic. I was very touch and grateful.

However, he is not romantic type of guy. We both are working adult. I not too sure how we ended up discussing buying ring and settle down. I didn't have a romantic or surprise wedding proposal. I took some time to “interrogate” his engineer friend. Most of them settle down without a wedding proposal too. In the end, I give up on the idea of having a surprise wedding proposal.

You may be wonder. Why there is a swimming suit in the poster? Well, I am quite lazy. When I see swimming pool, river, waterfall or beach, I just wish to jump in. Since I wear the swimsuit inside, I can just slip off the dress. Place all the stuffs in the bag. Dump. Jump into the water and have fun.

Conclusion, I hope that my new attire can give Mr. Ang a surprise. Sometime, we need a bit of "spices " for our relationship. If he don't have the gene to do it, let me do it then. ^^

5 LOHAS Experience in Taiwan

My family and I visited Taiwan last year, 2014. It was a memorable trip for us. My family prefer "back to nature" trip. The Taiwan trip let us understand the meaning of LOHAS.

LOHAS is an acronym for Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability, a market segment focused on health and fitness, the environment, personal development, sustainable loving and social justice.

Taiwan is considered  a treasure island. The island has a variety of delicacies. Exciting events or festivals that happened almost every month. Not to forget, national park that is well maintained. Let me share with you my LOHAS experience in Taiwan.

#1 Cycling in Park

We are very surprised that Taiwan has great cycling path way in most of the small villages. Most of the villages we visited has similar story. The village used to be log farm or agriculture industry. As years go by, price fluctuated and many people left the industry. In order for the village to survive. Tourism is introduced to these villages. The old railways are either transformed into museum, jogging track or cycling track.

The existing railway provided a great cycling track for the cyclists. Cyclists are able to enjoy the beauty of nature and breeze. Try it yourselves.

#2 Jungle Trekking

It was raining season during May 2014. We enjoy our walk by wearing rain coat or holding umbrella. It was quite an unique experience to walk in the park or jungle with umbrella.

#3 Fresh from the Farm

 Most of the home stay owner have their own farm. We have the chance to eat fresh vegetables and fruit from their farm.

The most unforgettable meal in Baihe village. All ingredients are from the the owner farm or neighbor farm.

#4 Creative Home stay concept

Stone House in Hualien district was the most impressed home stay  for our trip. The walls of the house was covered with grey pebbles. We also come across some hostel with their own creativity on it.

#5 Friendly People

We did not feel any fear while walking on the midnight street. Although most of the street or shops were written in Chinese, my English educated dad  didn't face trouble in communication. He can used dialect to chat with the local. Hokkien and Hakka dialect were widely used by local.

English may not be widely used in Taiwan. When we lost our way or ask for information, they will explain with great detail. We were offered tea when we are having our morning walk or evening walk. It is quite easy for us to mix around.


Flight ticket from Malaysia to Taiwan (Round Trip) is less than RM500 per person. Do look out for great flight ticket with different airline. Mr. Ang and LerLer are looking forward to have honeymoon or ore wedding photo shoot in Taiwan too. May be we can try cliff jumping like the recent Sony A6000 advertisement in Taiwan too. ^^

Johor Bahru Jazz Festival 2015

Sadao Watanabe is a titan in the world of jazz music. His talent has seen him perform in some of the biggest cities and most prestigious festivals in the world, including Tokyo, New York and London. And Come February 2015, one more city will be added to that list - Johor Bahru.

The world-renowned jazz saxophonist will headline the inaugural Johor Bahru Jazz Festival, a four-days jazz music extravaganza from February 26, 2015 to March 1, 2015, which will be held at the Double Tree by Hilton, Johor Bahru

Joining Sadao at this year's festival are Italian a-Capella group Mezzotono, who last year performed to a rapturous reception at the Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival. The five talented singers reproduce the sounds of musicals instruments, while their often comical approach encourages audience participation in a fun and unique way. 

Also appearing at the festival is Singaporean musician Jeremey Monteiro, who is one of the best known jazz pianist in Southeast Asia. He will be performing alongside organist Alberto Marsico, Shawn Letts on saxophone, guitarist, Teriver Cheung, guest vocalist Rani Singam and Bangkok based Amerian drummer Shawn Kelley. Malaysian jazz great Favid Gomes also returns to Johor bahru, with the David Gomes Jazz Ensemble featuring Junji Delfino.

Renowned percussionist Steve Thornton who has worked with greats from Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis to Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey, will also returning to Johor Bahru after his performance at last year's JB Arts Festival. He will be joined by his band Afro Asia, as well as local saxophonist Razak Rahman.

Rounding up the lineup are Xiong Quintet, who will be presenting various genres of music from Brazil mixed with a healthy dose of jazz harmonies and improvisations; and RustiKa Quartet, a young jazz group that will bring their originals and arrangements of jazz standards in the spirit of youthful exuberance of today 's generation, while paying tribute to the roots of the Jazz genre.

Tzu Chi Head Quarter @ Hua Lien, Taiwan

On the way to our home stay (Stone Hous), we requested Ken to drop us at Tzu Chi Head Quarter, Hua Lien.

Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation

Tzu Chi Foundation was established in 1966 by Venerable Dharma Master Cheng Yen on the poor east coast of Taiwan. For over 43 years, the foundation has been contributing to better social and community services, medical care, education and humanism in Taiwan and around the world. From the first 30 members, housewives who saved two cents from their grocery money each day to help the poor. The foundation has volunteers in 47 countries with 372 offices worldwide.

Thaipusam 2015 @ Johor Bahru, Johor

My Hindu friends mentioned that  Sri Maha Siva Muniswarar Temple was one of the oldest temple in Johor Bahru. This temple just completed the renovation in the early of 2015. I decided to pay my respect to this temple on Thaipusam day.

To readers, I am practicing Buddhism. Buddhists are free to explore and respect other religions. I tried to get consultation from the temple communities. However,  I came on the wrong date. They were very busy with the prayers. Thus, this article is written based on my observation.

Hindu Gods

The word Thaipusam is a combination of the name of the month, Thai, and the name of a star, Pusam. This particular star is at its highest point during the festival. The festival commemorates the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan a Vel "spear" so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman. There is a misconception among people that Thaipusam marks Murugan's birthday; however, it is believed that Vaikhasi Vishakam, which falls in the Vaikhasi month (May/June), is Murugan's birthday.

This festival was created during one of the battles between the Asuras (or to be more specific Soorapadman) and the Devas. At one point, the latter were defeated several times by the former. The Devas were unable to resist the onslaught of the Asura forces. In despair, they approached Shiva and entreated to give them an able leader under whose heroic leadership they might obtain victory over the Asuras. They surrendered themselves completely and prayed to Shiva. Shiva granted their request by creating the mighty warrior, Skanda, out of his own power or Achintya Shakti. He at once assumed leadership of the celestial forces, inspired them and defeated the Asura forces and to recognize that day the people created the festival, Thaipusam.

LED Sky Screen @ Jalan Ibrahim, Johor Bahru

Since December 2014, Johor Bahru town council instilled the LED Sky Screen over Jalan Ibrahim. Jalan Ibrahim is very near to the old town of Johor Bahru. Now, Tourists can enjoy the evening breeze or picnic under this beautiful LED light.

On this Christmas eve, Mr. Ang and I decided to hang out around this area. My recommendation is park your car around

There is a night bazzar on Jalan Syed Mohamed Mufti.

If you wish to park nearer to the LED skyscreen, there are a few road you can park. However, it will be based on your luck. Please remember not to block other cars on this road too

Cycling in BaiHe Village, Taiwan

Travel like the local is our family travel's motto. This travel spirit has been passed down from my dad to me. That is why I wish to write about our ecology cycling trip in Baihe village.

4:00pm  We check in Grand Uncle's House. This home stay is surrounded by lotus plantation. The room has a beautiful view to oversee lotus pond.

4:30pm We choose our bicycle and wait for Mr. Teo, tour guide of the trip.

This is Mr. Teo. He is the tour guide and owner of Grand Uncle's House. He been awarded as one of the best ecology tour guide in Taiwan too.  At first rest point, Mr. Teoh explained the agriculture demographic at this rest place.

There are many children in this ecology tour. Mr. Teoh encourages the parent to let the children to play around this area. While the children are playing, Mr. Teoh continue to explain the different dams in this village.

林初埤木棉花道

 This is "林初埤木棉花道". Google translated it as "Lin Pi Early Kapok Road". Every year, around late Febraury and early March,  flaming orange color flowers will be blooming. The path will be shut down and open just for cyclist and tourists to enjoy the view.

During the late 1980, railway was built to transport sugar cane. As the sugar cane production cost increase, the farmers reduce sugar cane production and change to rice or lotus plantation. The train service for this area shut down too. In recent year, Taiwan government remove the railway and mended the path into cycling path. Cyclists can have a safe path to cycle around this village.

The journey ended at another big dam. There are total seven dams for agriculture at this district. We rested for 20 minutes before cycling back to home stay. I do not manage to capture the journey back to the home stay due to heavy rain fall. I also faced the worst nightmare that every photographer face. My camera battery went flat. O.O I brought 2 cameras and 3 batteries for this cycling trip. All went flat at the same.

This cycling trip is the most memorable trip in my Taiwan Itinerary.

Tips:

• Try to bring a Chinese speaking friends along
• Stay at Grand Uncle Homestay to enjoy back to nature experience
